WASHINGTON - The Food and Drug Administration is hosting a public meeting Tuesday that is a key step in deciding whether to open COVID-19 vaccinations to kids aged 5 to 11.The FDA is asking a panel of outside vaccine experts to review its analysis and vote on whether to recommend the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for the nation’s roughly 28 million children in that age range before the agency makes a decision.
If the FDA authorizes the shots, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will make additional recommendations on who should receive them the first week of November.
