PHILADELPHIA - A Philadelphia man is facing several charges after officials say his plans to carjack food delivery drivers turned deadly for one elderly victim.John Nusslein, 18, is accused of placing food delivery orders as a ruse to lure drivers in at least two separate occasions last year. He reportedly worked with co-conspirators during each incident.In the first alleged attack, police say Nusslein was involved in the beating of a 70-year-old delivery driver and stealing his car on the 3000 block of Teesdale Street. The victim eventually died from his injuries, and a 12-year-old boy was charged with murder in connection to his death.Less than two weeks later, a second delivery driver was carjacked at gunpoint on the 9000 block of Hilspach Street.

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Police Department is investigating after an off-duty corrections officer was carjacked at gunpoint and shot at the alleged carjacker in Feltonville on Monday night. According to Chief Inspector Scott Small, officers with the 25th District received a 911 call for a robbery and gunshots on the 200 block of E Roosevelt Boulevard around 11 p.m. When officers arrived on location, they were met by an off-duty corrections officer, 59, who said he was leaving a friend's house and getting into his Toyota Avalon when he was approached by a man with a gun who pulled him out of the car, police say. According to authorities, the alleged carjacker got into the driver's seat of the car and began to drive away as the off-duty corrections officer fired five shots at the suspect and the car. The suspect sped off in the car and officers located it about 25 minutes later on the 4900 block of Bingham Street, officials say. Small says the vehicle was found with five bullet holes in it and fresh blood inside the car. Authorities say officers were also notified that a 21-year-old shooting victim with a gunshot wound in each arm showed up for treatment at Temple Hospital. Small says there is a possibility that the shooting victim may be the alleged carjacker and authorities are investigating. According to police, the off-duty officer said the suspect was wearing a surgical mask and a hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled over his head. 

SAN ANTONIO - Authorities on Tuesday were continuing to investigate one of the deadliest tragedies involving migrants smuggled across the U.S.-Mexico border after 46 people were found dead in an abandoned tractor-trailer on a remote back road in San Antonio.Sixteen people were hospitalized, including four children, with heat-related illnesses, according to San Antonio Fire Chief Charles Hood. The patients were hot to the touch and dehydrated, and no water was found in the trailer.A city worker heard a cry for help from the truck shortly before 6 p.m.

PHILADELPHIA - A Philadelphia man is facing a long road to recovery after his wife say he was robbed and badly beaten by a group of teenagers while he was walking to a concert.Michelle Ferrara said her husband Benjamin left their Fairmount home just after 8 p.m. Friday to see a show at Union Transfer when he was attacked 2 blocks away. A neighbor's surveillance camera captured the moments before the attack, a teenager is seen running up behind him and three others join in. "He has staples completely running down his head and along his head because they removed part of his skull to alleviate pressure on his brain," Michelle said. She got a call from the hospital around 9:30 Friday saying her husband suffered severe head trauma with a brain bleed.

ATLANTA - An argument over mayonnaise at a Downtown Atlanta Subway ended with one worker dead and another in the hospital.Police say the shooting happened around 6:30 p.m. at a Subway located at a gas station on Northside Drive Southwest.Police say a customer killed one worker at a Downtown Atlanta Subway and sent another to the hospital over an argument about the amount of mayo on his sandwich.The owner of the Subway says the reason for the shooting was something small: a customer was mad about mayo."Believe it or not, it was about too much mayonnaise on his sandwich," owner Willie Glenn said.In this argument, police say the customer shot two Subway employees, leaving a 26-year-old woman dead and another 24-year-old woman rushed to surgery in critical condition."He decided to escalate the situation and from there - that's when all hell broke loose," Glenn said.Glenn said the injured employee's 5-year-old son was inside the store when the shooting started.Glenn said the manager on duty returned fire at the suspect, but wasn't able to hit him."I don't know what the world is coming to especially with our youth.

GEORGETOWN, Del. - Delaware State Police say they are investigating the death of an inmate over the weekend at Sussex Correctional Institution in Georgetown. Police say detectives and the Department of Correction are investigating the death of an inmate that occurred on Saturday. The inmate’s body was turned over to the Division of Forensic Science where police say an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause and manner of death. The inmate’s identity is expected to be released after next of kin are notified and police say further details will be released as they become available.
