Emergency covid laws in Scotland extended for further six months to March 2022

Scottish Government the powers to introduce rules on the population while the country recovers from the pandemic. The current laws are due to expire on September 30, however the Coronavirus (Extension and Expiry) (Scotland) Bill passed today means the government retains powers to March 31, 2022.

No new restrictions were introduced into the parliament just ones that will be extended beyond the September date.Politicians from all parties have spent the last three days debating the Bill in the Scottish Parliament.The Bill was passed by 90 votes to 32 in the Chamber.

The Bill also allows for the possibility of a further six-month extension should ministers deem it necessary.An amendment tabled by Scottish Labour deputy leader Jackie Baillie.
