Donald Trump said he would ‘strongly’ consider pardons, apologize to Capitol rioters if elected
Donald Trump said he would "very, very strongly" consider pardons and issue apologies to those who participated in the deadly Capitol riot if elected president for a second term, according to multiple reports. "I mean full pardons with an apology to many," Trump said on Thursday during a radio interview with conservative host Wendy Bell, according to The Washington Post.
The former president also noted — while not offering specifics — he would financially support Jan. 6 rioters, The Guardian reported. "I am financially supporting people that are incredible and they were in my office actually two days ago, so they’re very much in my mind," Trump said. "It’s a disgrace what they’ve done to them.
What they’ve done to these people is disgraceful." The Justice Department investigation into the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection and into the efforts to overturn the election has been proceeding alongside a separate probe by a House committee, which has held several public hearings, including in prime time.
