The Walt Disney Co. plans to lay off 32,000 staffers, most of them in its theme parks unit, during the first half of its fiscal year 2021, which started in October, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Hollywood giant disclosed in the annual 10-K filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission before Thanksgiving.
That target is roughly 4,000 higher than the one that the Disney Parks division had mentioned in September. The pandemic has hit entertainment companies' theme parks operations, including the Mouse House's Disneyland and WaltDisneyWorld, hard.
