DETROIT (FOX 2) - A Detroit rapper's role in a $27 million tax fraud scheme landed her a prison sentence.Sameerah Marrell, also known as Sameerah Anderson, Sameerah Pickett, Crème, and Loren Boyd, was sentenced to 4 ½ years in prison and three years of supervised release.

The 42-year-old must also pay the remaining restitution – $7,979,041.71.According to federal authorities, Marrell had successfully stolen $8.5 million, and the amount owed in restitution has been reduced by money, cars, and jewelry seized by the federal government and the states from Marrell during the course of this investigation.Between 2014 and April 2022, Marrell worked with others to file 122 false income tax returns to the Internal Revenue Service and Minnesota, Georgia, Maryland, Arizona, Connecticut, and Colorado state treasuries.

They sought more than $13,690,341 from the IRS and $14,730,365 from the states.Marrell committed some of these offenses after she was arrested on a criminal complaint charging her with, among other things, making false claims to the IRS, authorities said.Once Marrell, who was a member of female rap group "Deuces Wild," was charged, she fled the state.

She was caught in December 2022.She pleaded guilty to mail fraud, wire fraud, and committing an offense while on bond."Ms. Marrell committed an astonishing amount of fraud against federal and state agencies.

President Ranil Wickremesinghe instructed the officials to speed up the Minipe Left Bank Canal Rehabilitation Project (MLBCRP), which has been delayed for over three years owing to various reasons, and to provide its benefits to the farmers before the next Maha Season.The President provided these instructions on Sunday (19) while joining an observation tour of the Minipe Anicut construction site.President Wickremesinghe, after inspecting the plan of the project, also inquired from the engineers about the operation of the project.The President also pointed out the possibility of obtaining the support of the students of engineering faculties in Sri Lanka for the future work of the project.The existing anicut is not sufficient to release water to the left and right bank canals when water is released twice a day from the Rantambe Hydro Power Plant during peak demand for electricity. Due to this, in order to provide more reliable and continuous water supply to Minipe agricultural lands, the Minipe Dam was raised by 3.5 meters and the renovation of the 74 kilometers-long main canal on the left bank of Minipe, was commenced.After the reconstruction of the Minipe Anicut, constant water supply to farmers will be ensured and the cultivation land on both sides of the left bank of Minipe could be cultivated without obstruction in the Yala-Maha Seasons while providing benefits to 15,000 farmer families.The cost of the project is Rs. 3,000 million and the construction work is carried out by China Gexhouba Group Company Limited (CGGC).Minipe Anicut, which was built in 1948, was last renovated in 1980.

KENSINGTON - Philadelphia police are looking for a suspect they say abducted a young woman, at gunpoint, and fled with her in a golf cart.Officials say the incident happened Saturday morning, just after 6:30, on the 2500 block of Aramingo Avenue, in Philadelphia’s Kensington neighborhood.According to authorities, the victim was walking east on Cumberland Street toward Aramingo Avenue, while the suspect appeared to be following her, in a maroon and black Polaris Northstar XP 1000 two-seat golf cart.He pulled into a bank parking lot on the 2500 block of Aramingo and fired a weapon one time, the bullet hitting the asphalt of the lot.At that point, officials say, a witness told police the man crossed over Aramingo into the Wawa and Applebee’s parking lot, got out of the golf cart, pulled out a gun, pointed the gun at the woman, grabbed her and shoved her into the golf cart.Then he drove off in the golf cart, with the woman, heading west on Cumberland.The victim is a woman in her late 20s or early 30s, wearing a light-colored jacket, a dark shirt, black jeans with a white design on the left leg.
