CENTER CITY - A man is dead after he was shot multiple times on the SEPTA northbound platform of the Walnut-Locust Station in Center City Saturday afternoon.Police say the shooting started as an "animated conversation" on Broad Street that escalated into a fight on the subway platform.While fighting, the suspect's gun discharged and struck the victim in the leg, according to authorities.The man, identified as 21-year-old Joseph Lighty, was rushed to Jefferson Hospital where he died from his injuries.Police say the suspect, identified as 36-year-old Phillip Riddick, was arrested as he walked up the stairs of the subway station.

His firearm was also recovered.Riddick is currently charged with absconder as officials say murder charges are pending further investigation..

Body burned beyond recognition found in backseat of vehicle after car fire in Oxford Circle, authorities say

PHILADELPHIA - Authorities in Philadelphia are investigating after a body was found in the back seat of a burning car early Tuesday morning. According to officials, police responded to a car fire in the area of Sylvester and Howell Streets in the Oxford Circle section of the city just before 1 a.m. Police say officers and medics arrived on scene to find a Honda CRV fully engulfed in flames. Once the fire department put out the flames, authorities say they realized there was a body in the back seat. The individual in the back seat was pronounced dead shortly after, according to Chief Inspector Scott Small, who says the body was burned beyond recognition. Rogers Communications Inc. announced Monday it will relocate around 300 Shaw call centre jobs based overseas to Canada after completing its $26-billion acquisition of the carrier earlier this month.The positions will be located in B.C., Alberta and Manitoba, where Rogers has pledged to boost the number of “customer-facing” jobs.As part of a set of conditions Ottawa attached to its approval of the merger with Shaw Communications Inc., Rogers must create 3,000 new jobs in Western Canada.All Rogers customer service positions have been based in Canada since 2020, when it announced it transitioned 150 remaining foreign call centre jobs to Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick.

Juveniles ambush ride-share passenger stopped at traffic light in Old City, police say

PHILADELPHIA - A passenger's ride-share trip took a violent turn when police say they became the victim of a group of juveniles earlier this month.The juveniles surrounded the vehicle as it stopped at a traffic light at 2nd and Chestnut streets in Old City, according to authorities.Police say two of them reached in to try and steal the passenger's phone, then hit them in the face as the driver pulled away.MORE HEADLINES:It is unclear if the phone was stolen, or if the victim sustained any injuries.Surveillance footage captured the suspects on a SEPTA subway platform after the incident.Anyone with information is asked to contact police.

Suspect, 24, in custody after fatally shooting man, 23, on East Germantown street: police

PHILADELPHIA - Police are investigating the death of a man who was shot in East Germantown on Friday evening. According to authorities, officers from the 19th District responded to the 6100 block of Ardleigh Street for a report of a shooting shortly before 9 p.m. Officials say 24-year-old Donte Moore, of East Germantown, was found suffering from gunshot wounds to the chest and lower back. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESFire department medics pronounced Moore dead on scene at 9:05 p.m., according to authorities. Police say 23-year-old Zaire Ayers of West Philadelphia was arrested in connection with the shooting. Ayers has been charged with murder and related charges, officials say.
