Minister for Housing Darragh O'Brien will bring a Bill before the Dáil today which would extend protections for tenants who have lost income due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
However, a spokesperson for the Minister said 'normal processes' will apply to everyone else. The Residential Tenancies and Valuation Bill 2020 will replace the emergency Covid-19 tenant protections before they expire on Saturday 1 August.
The proposed new laws would place a new ban on evictions for people who have been affected by Covid-19 and fallen into rent arrears.
The Bill also includes a ban on rent increases for those in receipt of the Pandemic Unemployment Payment or the Temporary Wage Subsidy Scheme.
