COLOMBO (News 1st): The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has agreed to provide 3000 Metric Tonnes of Fuel for the two power generating units at the Kelanitissa Power Plant Complex that ran out of Diesel on Thursday (Jan.

13) and are currently inactive.The two power stations could be re-activated once the fuel stocks are provided this morning, Andrew Nawamani, the Additional General Manager at the Ceylon Electricity Board told News 1st on Friday (Jan.

14).The power supply could be restored if there are no issues with any other power stations connected to the National Grid, he noted.According to Andrew Nawamani, the 3000 Metric Tonnes of fuel is only sufficient for two days; therefore, more fuel stocks must be provided to the Kelanitissa Power Plant expeditiously.Power cuts were reported in multiple areas across the country after two power stations at the Kelanitissa Power Plant Complex ran out of Diesel and became inactive on Thursday (13) afternoon.The CEB noted that 300 MW of power was lost from the National Grid as a result of this.Meanwhile, The hydropower generation in the country has fallen by 30 percent of the daily requirement, the Ceylon Electricity Board noted.According to the CEB, the power generation at the Canyon Hydro Power Plant has been temporarily suspended due to maintenance activities.The water levels of reservoirs surrounding Hydro Power Plants such as Castlereigh and Maussakelle are also reducing, the CEB added. .
