A 'postcode lottery' for the coronavirus vaccine means almost twice the number of people in the Midlands being given a jab compared to those living in London.

Figures released today by NHS England shows between December 8 and January 18 a total of 439,691 jabs were given to people in the capital - including 388,437 first doses and 51,254 second doses.

But in the Midlands there was a total of 779,437 during the same period including 13,602 first doses and 65,835 doses. The news comes as it was revealed many of Britain's most elderly and vulnerable are still waiting to hear from their GP practice about getting their first shot, while others are being given appointments at vaccination centres up to 100 miles away.
