coronavirus vaccine before the schools return from summer holidays next week. 16 and 17-year-olds are now eligible for the covid jab after being granted permission by the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) last week.

The majority of school kids will head back to the classroom early next week after a six-week break from studying, however on their return they will still have to wear face coverings in order to prevent the spread of the deadly virus.Health Secretary Humza Yousaf took to Twitter to urge people aged 16 and above to get a jab at their nearest vaccination centre.

Yesterday, the Scottish Government announced that 11 people had died in the last 24 hours after testing positive for the disease.
