Covid capital of Scotland: Ayrshire zones have the worst infection rates in the country

Ayrshire is home to Scotland's new coronavirus capital. Two neighbourhoods in the region are currently the worst hit for new cases in the country based on positive tests over the past seven days per 100,000 population.

Kilmarnock South Central and Caprington in East Ayrshire has the highest rate in Scotland with 2,605.3 cases per 100,000 after recording 73 cases in the zone that has a population of 2,802.

Second in Scotland is Heathfield in South Ayrshire, which has an infection rate of 1,450.6 after the zone reported 64 cases in the area that has a population of 4,412.
