New Delhi: India registered 461 fresh COVID-19 infections in the last 24 hours, according to an update by the union health ministry on Friday.
The nation has seen a decline in active cases, currently at 5,707. Since the onset of the pandemic three years ago, over 44.9 million Indians have been infected, with death toll at 531,856.
Health experts have said that most hospital admissions are currently among the elderly and individuals with underlying health conditions.
They have been stressing on the importance of receiving booster shots. Scientists have said that the COVID-19 variant XBB.1.16 was responsible for the recent surge in cases.
