NEW CASTLE, Del. - Out of all the loss, devastation, and heartbreak that has come from Southwest Florida this week, there is still hope for some of the displaced, four-legged victims of the storm.The Brandywine Valley SPCA organized a rescue airlift of shelter animals from Florida following Hurricane Ian's catastrophic damage. On Monday, 68 animals arrived in New Castle, Del., on a Wings of Rescue Flight, ready to be adopted into their next loving family as early as Tuesday. "Many of these animals quite rankle would have never made it out," said Laura Page of Brandywine Valley SPCA. The animals were adoptable in Florida shelters prior to the storm.

LOS ANGELES - Consumers who are sick of the ongoing impacts of inflation are soon to experience a bit of relief following an announcement from Nike which plans to liquidate some of it's products following a recent flood of inventory. According to a report by The New York Post, Nike said it's planning to offer sales of up to 44% overall and 65% in North America, the company as it reported for its latest quarter last week. The company is blaming supply chain issues for a lag in product movement which resulted in the company overstocking some items while others arrived late. "We effectively have a few seasons landing in the marketplace at the same time," chief financial officer Matt Friend said on an earnings call with analysts on Thursday, adding that some of that inventory is now "seasonally out of relevance" and will be cleared out more quickly to make room for the "newest and best inventory."  So what does this mean for shoppers? Bobbitt, seen here in a Burlington County courtroom back in 2020, was sentenced to three years of probation after pleading guilty to federal charges.  PHILADELPHIA - A Philadelphia man has been sentenced to three years of probation for his role in a GoFundMe scam that raised $400,000 using a fake, feel-good story. Johnny Bobbitt, 39, was also ordered to pay $25,000 in restitution after entering a guilty plea to conspiracy to commit money laundering in the case. Mark D’Amico and his then-girlfriend, Katelyn McClure, were accused of fabricating a story about Bobbitt, a homeless veteran, giving McClure his last $20 when she ran out of gas on a Philadelphia highway in 2017.  In truth, state and federal prosecutors said, the group had met near a Philadelphia casino in October 2017 shortly before they told their story.They publicized the story through local and national media interviews and created a GoFundMe account that more than 14,000 people donated to, thinking the money was to help Bobbitt, according to prosecutors.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Starting in January, it wiill no longer be illegal to jaywalk in California, after Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill decriminalizing it.The new law, the Freedom to Walk Act, says you can cross the street anywhere outside of an intersection, but only if it's safe to do so.Police will still be able to stop or ticket you if crossing the street puts you in danger of being hit.The author of the bill, Assemblyman Phil Ting, (D-San Francisco,) argued jaywalking bills are arbitrarily enforced, and unequally impact poor people and people of color."It should not be a criminal offense to safely cross the street.

The Supreme Court opens its new term Monday, hearing arguments for the first time after a summer break and with new Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson. Already the court has said it will decide cases on a range of major issues including affirmative action, voting rights and the rights of LGBTQ people. ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - Flooding concerns became all too evident Sunday, as the remnants of Hurricane Ian flooded roads down the shore and some interior sections of Philadelphia suburbs.Route 40 into and out of Atlantic City was closed because of flooding. Some of the streets looked like rivers and water even towered high above storm drains.Route 30 out of Atlantic City was also closed for a period of time because of coastal flooding.Some roads were also reportedly underwater in Sea Isle City and Wildwood.Ocean, Atlantic, and Cape May Counties in New Jersey are still under a coastal flood warning.
