Covid-19: 4,761 new cases, 1,004 patients in hospital

The Department of Health has been notified of 4,761 new cases of Covid-19, including 1,749 PCR-confirmed cases of the virus and 3,012 positive antigen tests registered through the HSE portal.

All the key Covid-19 indicators are reducing, according to the latest figures. Today there are 1,004 patients with the disease in hospital, a reduction of 77 patients on yesterday's figure.

53 people are being treated in intensive care. The PCR positivity rate has continued to fall and is now at 26.7%. The seven day rolling average of PCR positive cases is now at 2,670 compared with 7,529 towards the end of March.

Meanwhile, in Northern Ireland, the deaths of a further two patients who had previously tested positive for Covid-19 have been reported.
