The more we learn about Covid-19, the more we realise it’s not an illness that survivors simply shrug off. Pandemic watchers are now paying close attention to “long Covid”, or the far-reaching after effects that are affecting people for months after the initial infection.
Members of the Post Covid Syndrome Group on Facebook have so far reported over 170 long-term symptoms, ranging from fatigue, blurry vision, brain fog and muscle pains to depression, anxiety, heart palpitations and tinnitus.
And as well as affecting the body internally, it’s clear that coronavirus is taking a toll on survivors’ external appearance too. There are reports of strange rashes, dryness, inflamed itchy skin and, perhaps most traumatically of all, hair loss.
