Coronavirus infection rates are continuing to plummet across all ten boroughs according to new figures. And hospitalisations as a result of Covid across the region are down more than 20 per cent.
Currently, nine of the 10 boroughs in Greater Manchester also have case rates lower than the national average. Out of all the boroughs, Tameside continues to have the highest coronavirus infection rate, with 1026.3 cases per 100,000 people in the week ending January 20. In Greater Manchester as a whole, the infection rate is now 847.7 cases per 100,000 population. The infection rate in the region is lower than the national average, which is 987.7 cases per 100,000 people.
A total of 24,037 people tested positive for coronavirus across Greater Manchester in the week which ended on January 20. The Greater Manchester weekly total has decreased by 6960 cases compared to the previous week, which means the infection rate was down 22 per cent in the last week..
