Coronavirus claims 1,001 more lives in UK's lowest Wednesday increase of 2021

A further 1,001 people have died from Covid-19 in the UK. By way of comparison, yesterday a further 1,052 people lost their lives, with 12,364 more positive tests returned compared to 13,013 today.

Today's death toll, while tragic and higher than that of many other comparable countries, is the lowest on a Wednesday this year.

Between February 4 - 10 the number of infections have gone down by 27 per cent compared to the previous seven days. The number of deaths over the same period has fallen by 26 per cent.

The last time fewer people died on a Wednesday of Covid in the UK was on December 30, when 981 lives were lost. The figures suggest the lockdowns currently in place across the UK are continuing to have an impact in driving down the
