Coronavirus cases have plunged by 60 percent in the UK since the start of January, according to new data. Since the peak of 69,000 daily cases at the turn of the year, infections have dipped considerably, with drops across almost all regions.
However, the highest risk areas have been identified as Liverpool, London and Birmingham and the Black Country.
According to the ZOE Covid Symptom Study UK Infection Survey figures, there are currently an average of 28,645 daily new symptomatic cases in the UK, based on swab tests data from up to five days ago.
This compares to 34,133 daily new symptomatic cases a week ago, a decrease of 22 per cent and almost three times that since around January 1.
