Upwards of 350 taxi drivers took part in a protest cavalcade through Cork city centre this morning. Organised by the Cork Taxi Council, who represents self-employed taxi drivers in the city, the drivers are protesting over what they say is the lack of financial supports for their industry in the wake of the pandemic.
Taxi driver Ger O'Keeffe said the industry has been abandoned by the Government and he is appealing to them for help. He said taxi drivers are frontline workers too but are getting "no respect from the Government." "This industry is on its knees, all we are asking is for a bit of financial help and respect."
