COLOMBO (News 1st) – The National Construction Association of Sri Lanka (NCASL) says that 95% of the construction projects have been delayed due to the shortage of required raw materials in the local market.
The Deputy Head of the National Construction Association of Sri Lanka M.D. Paul said that this has concerned a large proportion of the people employed in the construction sector.He says around 1.5 Million people are employed in the construction industry and among them, 75% are currently unemployed.He further said that import restrictions on construction materials such as Tiles, Air Condition systems, and Elevator systems have further disrupted the construction industry.
