Elected representatives in Galway have expressed concern after large numbers of people congregated in the city last night. Galway is one of the counties where there are increasing concerns about the spread of Covid-19.
Health authorities have appealed to people to maintain social distance and adhere to other guidelines aimed at limiting the transmission of the virus.
Gardaí were called to a number of locations to deal with crowds of people drinking alcohol. Footage shared extensively on social media shows a large number of young people at the Claddagh Basin, opposite the Spanish Arch, with other material showing congregations of young people in Shop Street.
