Clinical trials begin on Covid-19 vaccine being produced in West Lothian but it won't be ready for another year

Sign up to the weekly West Lothian Courier newsletter for the latest West Lothian news and sport.Another 75 people are being hired as West Lothian’s Covid-19 vaccine begins mass production but it won’t be ready for at least another year, if it is successful.Valneva in Livingston are working on the unique inactivated vaccine and today released more details on the timeframe of production.Valneva say they are already "ramping-up our manufacturing capacities and commencing production at full-scale."Clinical trials involving approximately 150 healthy adults will be conducted in study sites across the United Kingdom, supported by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR).Trials will then step up next year and will include more than 4,000.
