City of Edmonton to lay off 60 people, eliminating 300 full-time positions overall

In order to not increase taxes the City of Edmonton had to reduce its budget by $49.9 million, and that means jobs had to be cut.

Kim Armstrong, deputy city manager of employee services with the City of Edmonton, announced Tuesday 300 full time equivalent positions have been eliminated, however the number of actual people laid off was reduced to 60 individuals, by keeping vacancies unfilled and offering a retirement and resignation program..
