China locks down Shenzhen, province of 24 million over Covid

lockdown for at least a week and forbade people from leaving Jilin, the first time the government has sealed off an entire province since the area surrounding Wuhan was isolated in early 2020.

The Shenzhen lockdown, which came after new virus cases doubled nationwide to almost 3,400, will be accompanied by three rounds of city-wide mass testing.

Called with little notice on Sunday, the order followed earlier restrictions on Shenzhen’s central business district and will last until March 20.

All bus and subway systems in the city were shut, along with businesses providing non-essential services, spurring a key Apple Inc.

Experts weigh in But starting next month, travellers who are fully vaccinated — with two doses of an approved COVID-19 vaccine — won’t have to show either.Fully vaccinated travellers might still have to undergo random testing when they arrive in Canada, but they don’t have to quarantine while awaiting their results, Duclos added.Unvaccinated and partially vaccinated travellers will be subject to a molecular test both when they arrive and again eight days later.
