COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka has announced a certified price for paddy purchasing during the Maha Cultivation Season.Agriculture Secretary Gunadasa Amarasekera speaking to News 1st said that the Finance Ministry has issued the relevant circular for this purpose.Accordingly, a kilogram of paddy with moisture will be purchased for Rs.
88/- and a kilogram of dry paddy will be purchased for Rs. 100/-.The Agriculture Secretary said that a sum of Rs. 10 Billion has been allocated for this purpose.He added that the Divisional Secretaries have been instructed to purchase the paddy from Small and Medium Mill Owners.Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe has called for a meeting on Tuesday (14) to discuss the paddy purchasing program.Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera told News 1st that all officials connected to the program have been summoned for the meeting.The meeting will take place at the Sri Lanka Army Headquarters located in Akuregoda, Battaramulla.
During the weekend, President Ranil Wickremesinghe instructed the government officials to take the necessary measures to purchase a kilo of paddy at a guaranteed price of Rs.
