Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a health alert advisory Friday that it has been monitoring an increase in a particular stomach bug that’s becoming increasingly resistant to antibiotic intervention.A shigella infection, called shigellosis, brings about diarrhea that lasts for several days, usually up to a week, and possibly also fever and stomach cramps.

It is caused by bacteria that spreads easily, typically through person-to-person contact including sexual contact, and indirectly through contaminated food and water.

The CDC estimates that shigella cause about 450,000 diarrheal illnesses, 5,400 hospitalizations, and 40 deaths each year in the United States.

The agency’s public information officer Felicia Sotelo told FOX Television Stations that the men rode into a bowl-like depression on their snowmobiles and were unable to get out. "[They] essentially were stranded," Sotelo shared, noting that their tracked vehicles were low on fuel."They didn’t plan on being out all day," she continued. "They built a snow cave, they built a fire." The individuals utilized a SPOT location device, making it possible for the men to communicate with emergency officials, which assisted the rescue team in locating them. COLOMBO (News 1st); A cyclist died after he was run over by a bus in Panadura on Thursday (23) morning.Reports suggested that reckless driving on the part of the bus driver resulted in the death of a father of two.40-year-old Ruwan Priyankara was serving as a civil employee at the Panadura Army Camp.As usual, he left for work on his bicycle, however, he was only able to reach the Cross Junction in Panadura.A private bus operating on route 452 from Thotupala to Panadura had collided with his bicycle.Eyewitness accounts revealed that the handle of the bicycle came into contact with the body of the bus, and thus pulling the rider to the ground.

Man flags down police after being shot twice while driving in Kensington, authorities say

PHILADELPHIA - Police are investigating a shooting that left a man critically injured early Wednesday morning. According to authorities, a 26-year-old man was driving eastbound on Allegheny Avenue when a car next to him fired seven shots into the car. The man was shot in the abdomen twice and pulled into a nearby Sunoco gas station to turn around and drive in another direction, Chief Inspector Scott Small says. Officials say he was able to flag down police in the area of E Lippincott Street and Kensington Avenue. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESPolice say officers took the man to Temple University Hospital, where he is in critical condition. Investigators say they found seven spent shell casings in the area of Amber Street and E Allegheny Avenue. The shooting remains under investigation.
