Community members urged to 'wake up' and help promote safety for students in Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA - Senseless violence in the City of Philadelphia has many on edge. This is especially the case after a 12-year-old girl was shot in a drive-by shooting in North Philadelphia on Tuesday while walking home from school with her younger brother. So far, police have not made any arrests and no suspects have been announced. The school district said it is in constant contact with police and will continue to work towards its Safe Path Program, but with more than 200 schools in the district, they need support and help from the community. FOX 29 spoke to Jose Ortiz, a parent who now walks his son home from the Feltonville School of Arts and Science. RELATED: 'Stay on the line': Philadelphia Police Commissioner responds to concern of long 911 wait timesOrtiz's son was absent on the day of the shooting, but that would have been the typical route he took on his commute home. "It's crazy because he missed that day that it happened and he walks actually through that same light it happened at," Ortiz said. "Yesterday, he was kind of scared to walk home by himself, so I came and picked him up." The safety of local children walking to and from school has become a growing concern. Chief Keven Bethel, a Special Advisor on School Safety for the School District of Philadelphia, appeared on Good Day Philadelphia.

Fuel standards NOT changed & Fuel stocks will increase weekly – Gammanpila
COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka’s Energy Minister Udaya Gammanpila said the Central Bank of Sri Lanka had released US Dollars to the Ministry on Tuesday (18) to secure the delivery from two fuel tankers that were anchored off Colombo.“The consignment contains over 37,000 MT of Diesel and the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) will deliver 10,000 MT for electricity generation,” he told the weekly Cabinet Media Briefing on Wednesday (19), adding that this stock will be sufficient for a period of 8 days.He also that Sri Lanka’s power generation crisis that should have been solved internally between the Ministries of Power and Energy, has unfortunately spilled into the public domain.“All the allegations and issues could have been raised internally and the solution made public,” said the Minister. He also added that NO proposal was made to change the standards of the fuel delivered to Sri Lanka, adding that these are matters spread across social media platforms by those who wish to generate profits from Diesel.“Some may be mixing other fuel, like Kerosene, to generate more profits,” he said adding that if a person has been victimized via such measures, one must immediately notify the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation over the matter. He said that Sri Lanka’s fuel stocks fluctuate every week, and there will be shipments coming in every week to Sri Lanka, and dismissed claims that Sri Lanka is losing fuel stocks by the day.

Rating action by S&P unwarranted: CBSL
COLOMBO (News 1st); The Government of Sri Lanka (GOSL) is perturbed over the announcement by S&P Global Ratings to downgrade Sri Lanka, at a time when the GOSL has diligently lined up adequate funds to repay its maturing foreign debt liabilities and its repeated assurances over the strong commitment to oblige its debt service payments, including the International Sovereign Bond (ISB) maturing on 18 January 2022, the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) states. The credit rating agency, Standard & Poor’s (S&P) lowered long-term sovereign credit rating on Sri Lanka from ‘CCC+’ to ‘CCC’ on increasing external financing risks on Wednesday (12).The Central Bank of Sri Lanka, issuing a statement in response, states that this move demonstrates repetitive nature in which S&P and other rating agencies acted to initiate rating actions just prior to the settlement of ISB obligations. S&P’s action also fails to recognize the positive developments taking place in Sri Lanka, in an environment in which the entire world is grappling with repeated waves of the COVID-19 pandemic, the CBSL states. The sense of urgency on the part of an internationally recognised rating agency is inconceivable, particularly since S&P was being constantly updated by the Sri Lankan authorities on the latest developments in all sectors of the economy and many measures to shore-up foreign exchange inflows.
