Restrictions on people travelling from Britain to Ireland are under review amid concerns about the more infectious Delta variant of Covid-19 which is spreading in Britain, a Government minister has said.
Minister of State for Procurement and E-Government Ossian Smyth said that Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan spoke to his counterpart in the UK yesterday.
Minister Ryan and Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly were in touch with Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan about concerns over the Delta variant.
The case numbers are being closely watched by the Government and senior sources yesterday indicated that small changes to the current travel restrictions between Britain and here could be considered.
