Boris Johnson warns of more coronavirus deaths as cases in over-80s 'double in days'

Boris Johnson has bluntly warned Brits to expect more coronavirus deaths after the number of cases among over-80s "doubled" in a matter of days.

The Prime Minister said the rate of Covid-19 among people over the age of 80 is now around 12 per 100,000 across the country. "Only a few days ago it was about half that," Mr Johnson said. "It is growing." Data produced by 10 Downing Street showed cases have not doubled in days among the over-80s, as the PM said, but they have soared in just two weeks.
