Prime Minister told the public that the lives lost and the sacrifice made by millions as the country reached a fatal 100,000 milestone in the year-long pandemic would be commemorated.

But on the day official stats showed the UK as having the highest covid death toll in Europe, Johnson excused himself from responsibility.
