BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Officials with the Bensalem Township Department of Public Safety say an accidental fire inside a home left a man critically injured. Authorities say 911 dispatchers got a call from Thomas Risich, a 76-year-old man who lives on the 700 block of Kings Lane, about a fire in his living room. According to officials, Risich told dispatchers he was wheelchair bound and he was in a bathroom in the back of the home with no way to escape. Bensalem Police and firefighters from multiple agencies responded to the scene and saw heavy smoke coming from the home, per authorities. Firefighters were able to access the home through the back bathroom window, and they found Risich unresponsive on the floor. Authorities say he was removed through a bathroom window and transported to Jefferson-Torresdale Hospital before being airlifted to Jefferson Hospital, where he was placed in critical condition. Battalion Chief Rob Sponheimer conducted an investigation into the cause of the fire and it is believed the fire was accidental, likely caused by a faulty space heater, officials say. The investigation is ongoing.

PHILADELPHIA - A woman and a dog were both transported to medical centers for treatment after an incident in Philadelphia, according to police. Authorities say on Thursday morning, just before 10:40 a.m., police responded to the 5700 block of North Park Avenue in the Fern Rock section of the city.  According to police, a 61-year-old woman was attacked by a pit bull and sustained several bite marks. Officials say a 62-year-old man with a license to carry witnessed the attack and shot the dog a single time. MORE HEADLINES: Medics transported the woman to Albert Einstein Medical Center for treatment, according to police. Authorities say the dog was transported to an animal hospital.Police have not released information about the condition of the woman or dog. The Department of Public Health was notified about the incident, and police say the investigation is ongoing. This is a developing story.

PHILADELPHIA - A young man is expected to recover after police say he was shot inside a Philadelphia KFC restaurant on Wednesday night. Investigators say the 20-year-old man was shot once in the arm while in the dining area of the popular fried chicken chain on the 300 block of North Broad Street. Officers from the Philadelphia Police Department brought the victim to Temple University Hospital where he was placed in stable condition. Police have not said if there were any other customers in the dining area when the shooting happened. No arrests have been reported.

COLOMBO (News 1st); A report prepared by the Centre for Society and Religion on the use of tear gas in Sri Lanka has revealed that Sri Lanka Police has not conducted any laboratory test over the contents of tear gas munitions.The report filed based on the information obtained via the Right to Information Act revealed that Sri Lanka Police had used expired tear gas munitions to disperse protests in 2022, and some of those munitions were produced back in 2000.It noted that in 2012, a total of 20,000 tear gas munitions were procured and until 2016 only 2,306 of those units were used.The report adds that the remaining munitions were to expire in 2017, however they were not disposed.It added that from 2012 to 2019 a total of over 40,000 tear gas munitions were to expire, and during that period 8,265 tear gas munitions were used on protests, and another 31,735 expired tear gas munitions remain in service.The report from the Centre for Society and Religion notes that the handling of tear gas munitions by Sri Lanka Police totally violates all instructions given by the manufacturers, including to not deploy the munitions close to live firearms, and not to fire them directly at protestors.It added that from March to July 2022, during the period of the worst economic crisis in the country, Sri Lanka Police deployed 6,722 tear gas munitions on 84 separate occasions at a cost of Rs.

PHILADELPHIA - A mother and daughter are injured after police say they were shot inside a Holmesburg pizza shop Wednesday night. Just before 9 p.m., police responded to Mayfair Pizza, located on the 7400 block of Frankford Avenue, for reports of a shooting. Police say gunfire erupted after an attempted robbery inside the pizza shop. Investigators say 19-year-old Kaleb Bridges walked into the family-owned and operated pizza shop and asked for money while pointing a gun at the employees. MORE HEADLINES Authorities say the suspect fired three shots inside the store, hitting a 65-year-old woman in the stomach and her 34-year-old daughter in the shoulder. Police told FOX 29's Shawnette Wilson that the husband and father of the victims, along with employees and customers inside the store, jumped on top of the gunman and subdued him until police arrived. The victims were rushed to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital where authorities say they were placed in stable condition.Bridges was taken into custody and a weapon was recovered, according to police. He was later charged with aggravated assault, VUFA and related charges.

A 65-year-old man from Maui has been cited for harassing wildlife after videos emerged of him swimming close to a humpback whale and pursuing a pod of dolphins on March 5 and 6, (Credit: Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources) A Hawaiian man known as "Dolphin Dave" is facing charges after he allegedly harassed wildlife in a state park.The Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources said 65-year-old David Jiménez of Maui was cited Monday morning at Kealakekua Bay on Hawai‘i Island.This comes after the department's Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement received numerous calls reporting alleged wildlife harassment. Kealakekua Whale & Dolphin Incidents, March 6, 2023.mov from Hawaii DLNR on Vimeo.Wildlife officials said Jiménez was allegedly actively pursuing an adolescent humpback whale and dolphins inside Kealakekua Bay State Historical Park.A video recording of a man snorkeling close enough to the adolescent humpback whale to almost touch the whale’s fin was given to authorities Sunday. ‘DISTURBING’ AMOUNT OF PLASTICS, DEBRIS FOUND INSIDE DEAD WHALE IN HAWAIIWhen officers arrived at shore Monday, they recorded Jiménez "actively pursuing a pod of spinner dolphins." They say Jiménez was leading a group chasing the dolphins. Both whales and dolphins are protected by state and federal laws.According to the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources,Jiménez refers to himself as "Dolphin Dave," on Facebook, and told their officers he’s not going to stop swimming with whales and dolphins, "because it’s magical and others do much worse things."Jiménez was cited with the harassing wildlife in a state park and performing prohibited acts in regard to endangered whale species.
