Join thousands of others who have signed up for the Daily Record newsletter.MONKLANDS fireworks fans have suffered a blow after North Lanarkshire Council confirmed this year's display at Strathclyde Park has been cancelled due to coronavirus.The popular annual event, which attracts thousands of people from Lanarkshire and beyond, will not be taking place this November.Councillor Michael McPake, convener of the environment and transport committee, said: "It’s with some sadness that we've had to take the decision to cancel the fireworks display for this year."It’s certainly not something we have taken lightly and we know that many people will be disappointed; but the safety of our residents is our priority."We simply cannot organise events.
