COLOMBO (News 1st);  Bank employees reported to work dressed in Black to protest against the government's tax regime.The Ceylon Bank Employees Union said that all members reported to work dressed in Black in support of the National Protest Day.The Ceylon Bank Employees Union also said that the government has failed to respond to the amendments put forward by the professionals with regard to the new tax policy, and thus strict trade union action will be instituted.Over 3,000 bank employees from Public, Private and International Banks joined the protest.The Inland Revenue Department on Wednesday (8) issued a circular on exempting non-cash benefits provided to employees including vehicle, fuel allowances, housing, medical benefits etc.

KENSINGTON - Philadelphia police are looking for a suspect they say abducted a young woman, at gunpoint, and fled with her in a golf cart.Officials say the incident happened Saturday morning, just after 6:30, on the 2500 block of Aramingo Avenue, in Philadelphia’s Kensington neighborhood.According to authorities, the victim was walking east on Cumberland Street toward Aramingo Avenue, while the suspect appeared to be following her, in a maroon and black Polaris Northstar XP 1000 two-seat golf cart.He pulled into a bank parking lot on the 2500 block of Aramingo and fired a weapon one time, the bullet hitting the asphalt of the lot.At that point, officials say, a witness told police the man crossed over Aramingo into the Wawa and Applebee’s parking lot, got out of the golf cart, pulled out a gun, pointed the gun at the woman, grabbed her and shoved her into the golf cart.Then he drove off in the golf cart, with the woman, heading west on Cumberland.The victim is a woman in her late 20s or early 30s, wearing a light-colored jacket, a dark shirt, black jeans with a white design on the left leg. PHILADELPHIA - A wild Super Bowl party near Temple's campus left two alum with severely damaged cars and some Temple students are working to make it right. On Super Bowl Sunday, a video circulating on social media showed a silver Volvo being flipped before rowdy Eagles fans jumped on top of it. FOX 29's Kelly Rule spoke with the owner of the Volvo, Temple alum Cole Harper, who said he was in the city to watch the Super Bowl with his friends who live on the block. According to Harper, they went to a Center City bar and by the time they returned to Arlington Street, the block party was way out of control and he went inside. RELATED COVERAGE"I looked out the window, I just saw my car upside down. PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office has filed charges against two men in connection with a Super Bowl block party near Temple University that caused property damage. According to the DA's Office, Nicholas Faraglia, 22, and Edward Pearce, 23, both of Delaware County, were charged with criminal mischief, riot, criminal conspiracy, reckless endangerment of another person and disorderly conduct. RELATED: Crowd flips car near Temple University's campus ahead of Super Bowl LVIIAuthorities say on Super Bowl Sunday, around 4:20 p.m., officers from the 22nd Police District and Temple University Police responded to a call for a large unruly crowd on the 1700 block of West Arlington Street. When officers arrived on scene, they found a silver 2008 Volvo S80 sedan flipped over on its roof in the middle of the street, police say. According to officials, the car's windows were broken and the license plate was removed.

PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia police are investigating a double shooting in the city that left one person dead and another injured early Thursday morning. According to police, the shooting occurred on the 100 block of E Westmoreland Street in the city's North Philadelphia section just before 5 a.m. Officials say police arrived on scene and found two victims, including a 44-year-old man who was unresponsive and a 33-year-old woman who was shot in the leg. Both victims were rushed to Temple University Hospital, where the man was pronounced dead and the woman was placed in stable condition, according to authorities. Police say nine spent shell casings were discovered at the scene. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESAuthorities say a van that was struck multiple times by gunfire was found partially parked on the sidewalk.According to police, witnesses say the victim who died may have been driving the van. Police say no motive has been identified, but the investigation is active and ongoing.

PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia police are asking for the public's help to identify two teenage suspects wanted in connection with a deadly shooting from January. Authorities say the shooting occurred on the 1400 block of Erie Avenue on January 11 at 5:30 p.m. Officers who responded on scene found 16-year-old Semaj Richardson unresponsive on the sidewalk with gunshot wounds to the chest, back and arm, police say. According to officials, the teen was transported to Temple University Hospital, where he later died. Police released surveillance video from the shooting in hopes someone will identify the suspects, who police say are in their teens. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESThe City of Philadelphia is offering a $20,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case. Anyone who sees the suspects is urged to contact 911 immediately.
