New Jersey sports betting has its first $1 billion month
(FOX 5 NY File Photo) ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) - New Jersey's sports betting industry became the first in the United States to take in more than a billion dollars' worth of bets in a single month, in September, as football season sent more gamblers to sportsbooks and, crucially, their phones, according to figures released Monday.Figures from the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement show Atlantic City's nine casinos and the three racetracks that take sports bets collectively took $1.01 billion worth of wagers on sports last month, setting a new monthly record for both the state and the nation.Of that lofty total, over $82 million was kept by the casinos and tracks as revenue after winning bets and other expenses were paid.

Alligator gar caught in Kansas for the first time ever
Alligator gars are a unique species of fish and are often referred to as "living fossils." This is because fossil records for the animals have been discovered dating back almost 100 million years. The fish is usually found in areas like southwestern Ohio, parts of Missouri and Illinois. The fish has not been found, however, in the state of Kansas. That is, until now. While other species of gar are native to Kansas, alligator gar do not typically live in the area.

Climate change: US report targets economic risks from extreme weather
WASHINGTON - The Biden administration is taking steps to address the economic risks from climate change, issuing a 40-page report Friday on government-wide plans to protect the financial, insurance and housing markets and the savings of American families. The report lays out steps that could potentially alter the mortgage process, stock market disclosures, retirement plans, federal procurement and government budgeting. It's a follow-up to a May executive order by President Joe Biden that essentially calls on the government to analyze how the world's largest economy could be affected by extreme heat, flooding, storms, wildfires and the broader adjustments needed to address climate change."If this year has shown us anything, it’s that climate

Weather Authority: Weekend showers to bring break in mild temperatures
PHILADELPHIA - Friday will get off to a cool start but temperatures will be warming up into the 80s later in the day. Expect calm winds and partly cloudy skies through the morning as temperatures begin to climb. Highs should reach into the low 80s by the early afternoon, and those summer-like temperatures will be returning again on Saturday. Our break from the heat will come when a cold front brings the potential for some scattered showers and storms Saturday afternoon and evening. After that front moves through, high temperatures will drop into the mid-60s Sunday.
