The Government's Chief Scientific Advisor Prof Mark Ferguson has said that while antigen testing has a role in combatting Covid-19 it is not a solution in itself.
He also said indoor ventilation was vital in helping prevent the spread of the airborne virus, especially at venues such as nightlcubs.
Prof Ferguson told RTÉ's Morning Ireland that there is a role for employers and individuals to consider the use of antigen tests to limit the spread of infection.
He said that while antigen testing "it is not a solution in itself, but used with mask wearing, social distancing and good ventilation it can help prevent the spread of Covid-19".
