Some 60% of people say they have reduced their social contacts over the last week, a poll carried out by Amárach Research for Claire Byrne Live has found.

After a week of warnings about the steep rise in Covid case numbers and concerns about social contacts expressed by Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan and others, the poll found evidence that the warnings have had an effect.

Asked whether they had "reduced their social contacts over the last week", 60% of respondents said they had. Some 38% of respondents said they had not, while 2% said they did not know.
