PHILADELPHIA - A Philadelphia judge dismissed all charges against a former police officer accused of assaulting a woman who accidentally drove a sport utility vehicle into a 2020 protest — but prosecutors quickly refiled the case.The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that the judge's action Friday came after a police officer who was a witness failed to appear Friday for the aggravated assault trial of 42-year-old Darren Kardos. PHILADELPHIA - A Philadelphia music teacher is keeping her students on beat, despite losing all of her instruments in devastating fire that gutted the entire school building.The Mother of Consolation Parish School in Chestnut Hill went up in flames on Mar. 12, and took with it Elise Malizia's 30-year collection of instruments, CDs and music books. "I lost everything in my classroom – everything," Maliia told FOX 29's Joyce Evans. Despite the loss, she continued to help her students get ready for their spring concert at a chapel on the campus of Chestnut Hill College. "It's such a beautiful thing to be in music education and see the growth and development still happening after a fire, and happening so beautifully," Malizia said. Two months after the fire, there is still no timetable for when the school will be rebuilt.

PHILADELPHIA - Authorities in Philadelphia are trying to identify a masked man who they believe was involved in a shooting at a parking lot ATM. The Philadelphia Police Department on Friday shared pictures of the masked suspect, dressed entirely in black with gray sneakers. Authorities believe the unidentified suspect is white or Hispanic and may have a tattoo on his left hand, according to the surveillance pictures. Police were called to the Roosevelt Plaza Shopping Center on 6500 Roosevelt Boulevard Wednesday night for reports of a shooting. Officer from the Philadelphia Police Department found a 53-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wounds to the chest and leg lying next to his car. The victim, who has not been publicly identified, was taken to Jefferson-Torresdale Hospital where he was admitted in critical condition. Investigators say Wednesday night's shooting was the third violent incident that happened at the ATM.MORE LOCAL HEADLINESHours before the shooting, police responded to the shopping center parking lot after a man who was using the ATM was carjacked at gunpoint by someone who got out of a suspected stolen car.Police say last Friday a 20-year-old man who was using the ATM to deposit a check to use for rent was assaulted, robbed and carjacked by two men in ski masks. Investigators suspect all three incidents may have been carried out by the same person or group, but they have not been able to confirm that theory.

Canadian tourist has been shot and killed in a Mexican beach town just days after a tourist from Argentina was hacked to death in a machete attack in the same Pacific coast resort area.Prosecutors in the Mexican state of Oaxaca say the Canadian man was found dead in a car with a bullet wound in the town of Puerto Escondido, a relaxed beach town popular with surfers, on Monday. No details were revealed regarding the specific circumstances of the man’s death, but he was identified as 27-year-old Víctor Masson.Masson’s death comes three days after a tourist from Argentina was killed in a machete attack in the state of Oaxaca, generally considered one of the safer states in Mexico, roughly 60 miles west of Puerto Escondido in the hamlet of La Isla.The Argentine was identified as Benjamin Gamond and Mexican police say he was one of three tourists from Argentina attacked by a man wielding a machete on Friday and that he died in the hospital after the attack. PHILADELPHIA - A man has died after Philadelphia police say he was shot in the city’s Tioga neighborhood early Friday morning.Police responded to the 3700 block of Germantown Avenue around 2:30 a.m. for a call of a fight and a person with a gun. When officers arrived on the scene they found a man laying on the sidewalk suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

PHILADELPHIA - Authorities say a food delivery driver was gunned down while sitting inside his car after dropping off food to a property near Temple's North Philadelphia campus. Officers from the Philadelphia Police Department were called to the 1700 block of North Gratz Street for reports of multiple gunshot. Police found a 48-year-old man in the driver's seat of a white Honda suffering from a gunshot wound to the stomach.

PHILADELPHIA - A woman is fighting for her life after police say she was found shot multiple times inside a West Philadelphia apartment Thusday night. Officers from the Philadelphia Police Department were called to the Sylvania Gardens apartment building on the 400 block of South 48th Street around 7:30 p.m.

CHESTER, Pa. - Two teenagers are facing charges after police say they carjacked someone in Delaware and sped away from officers during an attempted traffic stop before being arrested in Pennsylvania. Officers from the Wilmington Police Department were called to the 600 block of Geddes Street around 7 p.m. Tuesday for reports of a carjacking, according to investigators. Police located the stolen vehicle a short time later, but it sped away from officers when they tried to conduct a vehicle stop. The car was recovered later that night in Chester, Pennsylvania – about a 20-minute drive from Wilmington. Police say a 14-year-old and 17-year-old were both taken into custody after first trying to run away from City of Chester police officers. Both teens are being charged with first-degree robbery, among other charges, according to authorities.

ALLOWY, N.J. - Over a dozen structures are being threatened by an uncontained wildfire burning in Salem County, according to officials. The New Jersey Forrest Fire Service on Thursday said crews are battling the blaze at the former Holly Hills Golf Course in Alloway. The fire is currently threatening 15 structures and has consumed 10 acres, according to the service. Firefighters are conducting containment lines and burnout operations to contain and slow the fire's progression, officials said. No roads have been closed and no one has been evacuated.

PHILADELPHIA - A parking lot ATM outside a shopping center near one of Philadelphia's busiest roadways has become the site of a recent stretch of violent crimes that may have been carried out by the same group.The Bank of America ATM tucked in the corner of Roosevelt Plaza Shopping Center is where police say a 53-year-old man was shot twice Wednesday night while using the machine. Police found the victim - who has not been pubically identified - laying next to his car and rushed him to Jefferson-Torresdale Hospital where he was admitted in critical condition. Investigators believe the man, who police say lives nearby the shopping center, was trying to use the ATM when someone shot him. No update on his condition was provided on Thursday. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESThe shooting was a culmination of a spate of violence that has happened at the ATM within the week that has left people who live and work near the shopping center "scared to death." Hours before the shooting, police responded to the shopping center parking lot after a man who was using the ATM was carjacked at gunpoint by someone who got out of a suspected stolen car.A parking lot ATM has been the site of a recent spate of violence, including a shooting a two carjackings.

PHILADELPHIA - The brother of an inmate who escaped a Philadelphia correction facility with another prisoner and was arrested after a 10-day manhunt posted bail after being charged as an accomplice. Court documents show 24-year-old Amir Woods paid the required 10% of a $1M bail set after he was charged with Criminal Conspiracy, Hindering Apprehension, and Escape. Woods was taken into custody on Wednesday when he and fugitive Ameen Hurst, 18, were seen getting into a vehicle after leaving a property in Southwest Philadelphia. According to a criminal complaint obtained by FOX 29's Kelly Rule, it's alleged that Woods helped Hurst arrange for transportation during his time away from prison. RELATED COVERAGEAuthorities believe that during Hurst's escape he traveled to New York before returning to Philadelphia where agents who were trying to negotiate his surrender brought him into custody.U.S. Marshals say Hurst was arrested after missing three deadlines - one at midnight and two more early Wednesday morning - which were brokered his family members over the last few days.Agents camped outside a property in Southwest Philadelphia Wednesday morning and closed in on Hurst and Woods as they were seen leaving a home and getting into a car. Marshals swarmed the vehicle and pulled out both men.

FRANCONIA TOWNSHIP, Pa. - A teenage driver has died after their car slammed into a home in Montgomery County late Wednesday night. Police responded to the 200 block of Allentown Road in Franconia Township just before 11 p.m. for a report of a crash.When officers arrived on scene they found a 2016 BMW sedan had veered off the road and crashed into a nearby home. The car had become fully engulfed in flames.

PHILADELPHIA - Authorities have announced an arrest in an incident outside a Philadelphia speakeasy that left three people with serious injuries last year.Joel Martinez, 22, was arrested in connection with the incident that occurred back on June 12, 2022, near Rosehill and East Westmoreland streets.Martinez is accused of shooting a young woman and a teenage girl while also pistol-whipping a trans woman. Police say the victims were leaving the nightclub when they encountered another group of people, including Martinez. At that time, Martinez allegedly uttered a derogatory word at one of the victims and an argument ensued. During the argument, police say Martinez pulled out a handgun and fire at least six shots, striking two of the victims.

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple University community came together Wednesday night to mourn the loss of a student killed in a car accident over the weekend.Daniel Contreras Francisco and three members of his family were killed in a car accident in Connecticut early Saturday morning. Just a day before his passing, Daniel walked in the university’s commencement ceremony as he was just one class shy of earning his bachelor's degree. MORE HEADLINES: He was described as a leader on campus who was heavily involved in the fraternity and sorority community. Students gathered at the Bell Tower on campus to honor his memory Wednesday. The university is offering counseling services to anyone affected by the tragedy. 

PHILADELPHIA - The Democrat who will almost certainly become Philadelphia's next mayor wants to hire hundreds of additional police officers to walk their beats and get to know residents. She wants to devote resources to recruiting more police and says officers should be able to stop and search pedestrians if they have a legitimate reason to do so.Those positions, particularly the search policies that have been criticized for wrongly targeting people of color, would seem out of step in a progressive bastion like Philadelphia.

PHILADELPHIA - A man was shot and killed in front of his wife as he parked his car in Philadelphia’s Rhawnhurst neighborhood early Thursday morning, according to police.Investigators say the victim was ambushed in his own driveway around 1:30 a.m. on the 7300 block of Whitaker Avenue. At least 15 shots were fired into the vehicle, fatally wounding the 34-year-old driver.

PHILADELPHIA - Local bicycle enthusiast gathered Wednesday in Philadelphia for an eight-mile ride to honor cyclists killed in vehicle accidents and call for more safety measures for people to protect bikers. "We want to show people that they have to drive safely, and we also want to show that we are respectful as bicyclists," Philadelphia Ride of Silence organizer Ray Scheinfeld said. Approximately 800 bicyclists across the county were killed last year in accidents with vehicles, including 12 in the Philadelphia region. Sidney Ozer participates in the Philadelphia Ride of Silence every year in memory of his 17-year-old son Sam, who was killed in an accident on Henry Avenue almost three years ago."Coming home on Father's Day he was struck and killed by an automobile on Henry Avene, one of the high-injury streets that we have in our city," Ozer said. Before the ride, John Siemiarowski, an organizer, acknowledged the city's efforts in trying to protect bikers."The number of trails are increasing at a tremendous pace, the number of bike lanes is greater than ever.

PHILADELPHIA - A man is fighting for his life after police say he was shot near an ATM machine in Philadelphia's Oxford Circle neighborhood. Officers from the Philadelphia Police Department were called to the 6500 block of Roosevelt Boulevard around 9 p.m. for reports of a shooting. Chief Inspector Scott Small reports the victim, a man, was near an ATM machine when someone shot him in the neck. He was taken to a nearby hospital where police say he is in critical condition. Investigators have not said what lead to the shooting.

Authorities say Norelis Mendoza, 32, of Lindenwold, was found dead on the side of Route 440 near the Jersey City border. BAYONNE, N.J. - The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office announced on Wednesday that an investigation is underway after a South Jersey woman was found dead in Bayonne, New Jersey.On Sunday, May 14, the Jersey City Police Department say they received a missing person report for a 32-year-old Lindenwold woman who was last seen in Jersey City the Saturday before. On Wednesday, investigators say they located the lifeless body of a woman off of Route 440 near the Jersey City border.
