A massive custom-made face covering, weighing 35kg, has been placed on a giant Buddhist goddess statue in Japan to pray for the end of the coronavirus pandemic.
The face covering, made with net fabric and measuring 4.1 metres by 5.3 metres, was carried on ropes by four workers, who took three hours to scale and place the material on the 57-metre statue.
The statue is located in a temple in Fukushima Prefecture called "Houkokuji Aizu Betsuin". The manager of the temple said workers discussing ways on how to restore the statue after it was damaged in an earthquake in February, came up with the face covering idea.
