A total of 2,384 students and staff underwent testing for Covid-19 at 147 schools around the country last week, with 31 people, or 1.3% of the total, being found to have the virus.
The data is contained in the first weekly 'Covid-19 schools mass testing report' published on the website of the Health Protection Surveillance Centre.
The HSE says that reports with detail on numbers in schools will now be published every week. This latest figures brings to 21,130 the total number of children and workers tested, in 789 schools since they reopened in September.
It brings to 501 the total number of cases detected as a result of school testing. This is an overall positivity rate of 2.4%.
