The Department of Work and Pensions could be making surprise payments of £12,000 to thousands of people after a court ruling.

Around £18million has already been paid out to people who lost out because of a legal error relating to the points it awarded for Personal Independence Payment.

This would have resulted in some claimants getting lower PIP payments, while others were refused any PIP at all because their points weren't high enough to qualify.

PIP is a benefit delivered by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and helps cover the extra costs you may face if you need help with daily tasks or moving around outside your home.
